Typical dinner conversation in the Petersen house:
(Context: Ian had gone out to his grandmother's farm to help do some yard work, and potentially begin cleaning out some of the old buildings. The girls didn't go, but wanted to know why Ian had to clean out the buildings. We said that they needed to be cleaned out because at some point Helen would be moving off the farm and its something that will take a long time and is best to do little by little.)
Cora: What?! Why would she move off the farm??!!
Ian: A farm is a lot of work to take care of and right now it's just Grandma Helen out there and she can't do all of it by herself.
Evaline: Then, maybe she should get a new husband. What so he could help do work. [note: that isn't a typo; that is how she talks]
Ian: Yeah, I don't think that's a realistic option.
Evaline: We can find her a man then. He doesn't have to be her husband. When is her birthday?
Ian: January.
Evaline: Ok, then. We have until January. You guys [pointing at me and Ian] start looking for a man to help Grandma Helen.
Ian: That's very sweet, but we aren't getting Grandma Helen a man for her birthday.
Cora: Can we at least get her a Justin Bieber t-shirt?! [special emphasis added by Cora's actual dialogue, not me]
Caveat that Ian insists on including: they learned absolutely nothing about Justin Bieber in our house. Nothing. The blame entirely should be placed on daycare kids.

Sunday Funnies
I should preface this story by saying that Evaline's three favorite TV shows are HGTV's Property Brothers, Flip or Flop, and Rehab Addict.
Last weekend we were hanging out with some friends and from the corner of the couch, we hear Evaline say "AHHH! I'm FREAKING OUT!"
Everyone turns to look at her.
"What?!" I say "What's going on? Why are you freaking out?!"
Her response, stated somewhat shyly: "Well, I'm on the phone with my pretend builder," (and she shows us the toy cell phone in her hand) "And he said that some stuff we wanted for our house is actually going to cost $299 and we thought it was going to be $199. This is totally gonna blow my budget!"
"Oh my," I tell her. "What will you do?"
"I have to have it, so I'll just have to cut somewhere else, I guess."

Sunday Funnies
On Thursday night, as Ian was drying Cora off after her bath:
Ian: “I like you. You’re nice.”
Cora: “Thanks. You’re nice, too. Sometimes I’m nice. But
sometimes I don’t share with Evaline.”
Ian: “Well, sometimes I don’t share, either. And sometimes
I’m mean and don’t say things as nice as I should. I’m sorry when I do that.”
Cora: “You just need to say ‘oh, pickles’ instead of the
naughty words.”
Ian: “I’ll keep trying on that.”
Cora: “Well, you can just say ‘oh, pickles’ second. You can
say the naughty words first. I know you really like those words.”

Sunday Funnies
Cora: Why are you in here just starin' at a book? Daddy said you were reading.
Apparently it only counts as "reading" if you are doing it out loud. :-)

Sunday Funnies
Cora:
On Friday morning Willa woke up to eat around 5:45 am, after feeding her, I decided that instead of going back to bed until C & E got up at 7:30, I would get up and work out. So, I did, and then took a quick shower and got ready for the day. When the girls got up, Cora came to give me a good morning hug and said:
"Are we going somewhere today? You smell like we're going somewhere."
Perhaps I should shower more often???
Evaline:
So we actually were going somewhere on Friday...which is why I showered. We had to take Evaline to the eye doctor (watch for a post on that story later this week). The lady at the reception desk said to her "I like your bow."
Evaline gave her sweetest smile and said "Thank you...but its actually a ribbon."

Sunday Funnies
Evaline has had a funny week:
Funny #1
Evaline has taken to narrating her play as though it is a story. For example, playing store:
(hands me a bracelet) "'Can I buy this from you?,' I asked the lady at the store."
I pretend to ring up the bracelet and hand it back her.
"'Well thank you! Have a good day and good-by!' I said as I ran out the door." (as she leaves the room)
She started doing this just when she was pretend-playing, but apparently it is habit forming because it is spilling over into everyday life:
Spoken to me:
"'Can I please have some juice?' I asked my mother."
What a hoot!
Funny #2 (also from Evaline)
"When I toot its just my butt talking; and its saying: 'I have to go to the bathroom!'"
I'm sure that Cora has said funny stuff, too....but its escaping me right now...maybe Ian will think of something and I'll add an addendum...

Sunday Funnies
One of the ideas when originally starting this blog was to chronicle the growing up of the girls. You know, have something to look back on and remember some of the stuff that I'm likely to forget. Therefore, I suppose I should have started doing something like this about a year and a half ago - when they started saying funny things. Well, when I can remember it, or when something worth remembering (that also happened to make me laugh) happens, I'm going to try and record it here - in the "Sunday Funnies"
The girls have been playing "family" a lot lately. One girl is the mommy, the other is the baby. This means that "Mommy! I need help!" is a very commonly uttered phrase throughout the house. The problem, is that it is only used in reference to me about 1/4 of the time, but I can never tell who exactly they are talking to. So, while "Mommy! I need help!" is probably the most common phrase we hear around here, a close second is "Who are you talking to? Do you need ME?" (coming from me of course).
As the baby gets closer and closer to getting here (check out the blog tomorrow for an update on that), they've started to change the "family" game a bit. Now, one is the mommy, one is the kid, and a doll is the baby. Here's the problem: They make the most annoying, loud crying noise that is their baby crying. Yesterday, we had this conversation:
Cora: (ultra-loud, ultra-obnoxious crying noise)
Me: Hey, can you please stop making that awful sound.
Evaline: Its the baby mommy, she's crying.
Me: Well, can you please make her stop crying.
Evaline: I can't...she's just crying.
Me: Well, give her a bottle, or change her, or give her a pacifier, just get her to stop.
Evaline: I tried that mommy, but she's just crying...that's what babies do...sometimes they just cry.
I guess she's been listening to me as I've been trying to get them ready for their sister...
